This is an ad for Puma athletic shoes from a BlackBook magazine. This photograph is very fun with the many bodies juxtaposed and flying over each other. The colors are vibrant. The limbs and shapes of the bodies create very active shapes and motion in this image really putting the two pages into the face of the viewer.

This is the cover of Adbusters #74. The magazines name is displayed in block caps backed in bright pink (funny color choice- attention getting) The pink stands out well against the mat gray of the man and background, the picture of the man sucking a bright pink finger is provocative once again gaining attention (does the man know its a pink hand?) and the hand seems to be in motion for the quiet and calm man. This cover raises questions Why is the man sucking the finger? Why is the hand pink? Why is the man gray? Who is the man and who's hand is it? Are the images in pink related somehow? Can this magazine answer those questions? An entertaining cover.

This is an advertisement for Sparks, a beverage with energizing additives and alcohol. This combination is not new. However, it is unique to have put both energy and alcohol in the same can. The ad is simple with its clear heading (alcohol is first in order to grab attention immediately to the products unique contents) and cans facing the viewer. The background is calming and subdued which contrasts the over excited orange. Overall this ad 1/2 fails in my opinion. If I weren't interested in the effects of this drink this add would do nothing to bring me in or entice my interest, and even though interested in the contents I am not spurred to pursue this beverage any time soon.

first post
I first saw this image when downloading art work for itunes and it caught my attention right away. This is the cover to the Flaming Lips album "At War with the Mystics" (a pretty good album). The purpose of this image is to grab attention and create intrigue or curiosity about the cd. The layout is very basic with the bands name and the name of the album set up as a header for the piece. The text in yellow outlined in red stands out from the rest of the piece. The word war is larger than the rest of the words and a very aggressive word grabbing the viewers attention first. The viewer once having read the text is drawn to the painting beneath. This painting (done by Wayne Coyne lead singer) shows a figure standing before an explosion of light and color against a black background at what seems to be an entry way to some unknown. The painting is used to excite the eye and make the viewer wonder about the musical content of the album (Is it colorful, explosive, big, etc.)
